A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find collection of three pre-WWII English cast-metal miniature lamps, including a matched pair of traditional oil-lamp forms and an ornate miniature standard/table lamp. Measuring only approximately 2½ to 3½ inches tall, these wonderfully detailed pieces were created as miniature decorative accessories rather than functional lighting.
The matching oil lamps feature beautifully ribbed, rounded bodies, raised pedestal bases, and elongated chimney forms. Their companion piece is particularly striking, standing approximately 3½ inches tall with an elaborate fluted shade, slender column, decorative scrollwork, and an ornate four-footed base.
One of the matching lamps is marked “MADE IN ENGLAND” and 756165, a number associated with documented examples attributed to Taylor & Barrett, the celebrated English toy and miniature manufacturer active during the early 20th century. Its companion bears the closely related number 756166, while the larger standard lamp is marked 755179.
Taylor & Barrett was known for producing detailed hollow-cast metal miniatures, figures, vehicles, and accessories during the interwar period. These tiny objects captured familiar pieces of everyday life in miniature and are now collected both as early English toys and as decorative examples of British miniature craftsmanship.
The collection retains a beautifully aged silver-tone finish with areas of darkened patina, warm gold tones, oxidation, and surface wear acquired over many decades. Rather than detracting from the pieces, the naturally developed finish gives them the wonderful timeworn character expected of surviving pre-war miniatures.
Displayed together, the three create an exceptionally charming vignette—equally at home in a collection of antique miniatures, early English toys, dollhouse accessories, or simply displayed as tiny sculptural objects with nearly a century of history.
