Vintage Sowerby Chunky Marigold Carnival Glass Handled Server | No. 2266

A wonderfully decorative English carnival glass serving dish in Sowerby’s celebrated Chunky pattern, No. 2266, also known to collectors as English Hob and Button. The pressed glass bowl is richly textured with geometric diamond and button motifs, finished in warm marigold iridescence that shifts beautifully as it catches the light.

The ruffled bowl rests within a tall silver-tone metal mount, transforming the glass into an elegant handled server. A coordinating serving spoon suspends neatly from the frame, completing its charming table presentation.

Sowerby introduced the Chunky pattern in 1907 and later produced it in marigold carnival glass, including examples fitted with decorative metalwork. The pattern was produced in carnival glass during the 1920s and revived again in the 1950s, so without additional identifying marks we have left this example broadly dated rather than assigning it to one production period.

Originally suited to preserves, condiments, sweets, or other small delicacies, today the piece is just as appealing as a decorative accent—the warm glow of the marigold glass playing beautifully against the cool silver-tone frame.
